Reflexology is a complementary therapy treating the body as a whole, helping to balance the body and bring it back to its natural state of health. Applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet helps stimulate the body’s own healing mechanism.Reflexology works on the principle of restoring and maintaining the body's natural equilibrium and encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance or in holistic terms - homeostasis. Excessive stress disrupts the balance of the body, and builds up until it eventually expresses itself in the form of illness, discomfort or disorder. Reflexology alleviates the effects of stress by inducing deep relaxation, assisting the body to regain its natural balance and encouraging the normal function of the nervous system. Reflexology helps to improve circulation and stimulates the body. Please remember that you do not have to have a 'condition' to have Reflexology, it is very relaxing and enjoyable in its own right and most people find it very uplifting. Reflexology has been shown to be effective for: We know that the early Chinese, Indians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health. Today many of the same techniques have been incorporated into a modern scientific method called Reflexology. SUB FERTILITY Reflexology can be very supportive during this emotional time. It can help to balance hormones, boost the efficiency of body systems and of course, help with the considerable stress involved with subfertility. Both partners can benefit from Reflexology – men also suffer with hormonal imbalances. MATERNITY REFLEXOLOGY What is Maternity Reflexology? It is a gentle therapy using the pressure of the therapists hand on the reflex points of the feet to increase health and well being and provide an excellent environment for both mother and baby. Reflexology has been very successful in assisting with pregnancy related ailments, as hormonal, physical and emotional changes take place at this very special time. Reflexology during pregnancy can help with the following conditions: Heartburn / Morning Sickness Backache / Sciatica / High Blood Pressure Constipation / Diarrhoea / Tiredness / Exhaustion Fluid Retention / Swollen Ankles / Postnatal Depression Other less well-known but painful complaints, such as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, can respond well to Maternity Reflexology treatments. Specific techniques can help give pain relief for this troublesome condition. If you are trying to become pregnant, Reflexology helps the body to prepare for conception and pregnancy by helping to balance hormones, reduce stress and promote emotional wellbeing. The treatment is extremely relaxing and calming for before, during and after birth, helping to reduce any stress and anxiety that may be present and helping to relieve the discomfort of minor ailments sometimes experienced. Regular treatments during pregnancy is the perfect way to maintain balance and harmony during a time of dramatic change which involves every system of the body as well as the emotions. It can be effective in encouraging labour to start once the baby has reached full term and is ready to enter the world. Research in the UK and Denmark has also shown that regular Reflexology treatments during pregnancy can speed up labour and reduce pain. Is Reflexology safe during pregnancy? Some people are under the misconception that Reflexology can be harmful during pregnancy in case it causes a miscarriage. This is not the case. A miscarriage is generally a sign that there has been a problem with the baby's development or the mother's health and cannot be caused by a Reflexology treatment. |
